New York in the Thirties

Evocative and atmospheric, this is a famous collection of black and white images of 1930's New York - a city in continual transition and change. Berenice Abbott captures the broad cityscape, the waterfront, new buildings and established landmarks, as well as the everyday details of lives in shops, factories, stations and warehouses. Several classic shopfronts are preserved in these images, and the collection brings to life the street-level scenes that would have been familiar to New Yorkers nearly a century ago.  
Nearly 100 classic images are collected here: Rockefeller Center on the rise, Bowery restaurants, dramatic views of the City's bridges, Washington Square, old movie houses, rows of old tenements, views from skyscrapers, and many other landmarks.
